Castleberry’s Botulism Outbreak

On September 14, 2006, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Food and Drug Administration, and several state health departments alerted the public to an ongoing outbreak of E. coli O157:H7 that was linked to contaminated spinach. At least fifty people, including small children and one person who died after suffering from an E. coli infection, have been linked to the outbreak.

Although not one supplier in particular is expected to be named as one of the suppliers of the spinach, Marler Clark filed a lawsuit on behalf of an Oregon woman who became ill after eating Dole brand baby spinach. Other E. coli outbreak victims have been identified in Connecticut, Idaho, Indiana, Michigan, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, and Wisconsin. Marler Clark filed a lawsuit against Dole on behalf of an Oregon family on September 15.
